Winter Reading Programs at Grimes Public Library

We hope that everyone is having a wonderful winter break! If you are looking for something to do this winter, why not try to tackle our winter reading program?

Grimes Public Library is doing a winter reading challenge for all ages. No matter how old you are, reading a good book is a great way to spend those cold winter days. We have four different programs, depending on your age.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ages 0-5 years

This program is for children who are not yet in kindergarten. It is self-paced, which means that the due date is whenever your child has their first day of school. Come to the library to sign up and get a reading folder. Parents and children track the books they read together on the sheets provided. When you reach 500 books, you receive a free book. When you reach 1000 books, you get a diploma and your picture will be in Grimes Today.

Children’s Winter Reading Program

Kindergarten-5th grade students

This program is for school aged children. To pick up a log, stop in at the Grimes Public Library any time before the end of January. Children will be asked to read for a total of 5 hours to complete the log, as well as do some winter-time activities, like playing in the snow. When you complete your log, your name will be entered into the Children’s Winter Raffle to win one of these cools prizes! All entries due January 31st.

Teen Winter Challenge

Ages 11-18

Pick up a Teen Bingo Card at the Grimes Public Library and see if you can complete 6 rows. Each time you finish five challenges in a row, you get your name entered into a raffle for one of three prize packages; a Gamer’s Prize Package, a Reader’s Prize Package, and a Movie Goer’s Prize Package. Some of the challenges will need photographic proof! Share your photos on the Grimes Public Library Facebook Page. If you do not have Facebook, let a librarian know, and we will find a way to post your picture. All entries are due January 31st.

Adult Winter Reading Program

Ages 18+

It is super easy to join the Adult Winter Reading Program. For every three books, audiobooks, or magazines you check out from the adult or young adult section of Grimes Public Library, you get your name entered into a drawing for an Amazon Gift Card. Entry forms are at the circulation desk. This program will continue through January 31st.
