Patrons aged 5-17 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian with the adult showing appropriate identification. Library cards are renewed every year at which time your account balance must be paid in full. There is a $1 fee to replace a lost card. Promptly report a lost or stolen card.
Residents of Grimes and rural Polk County (who do not already have a library card) may request a digital card to get access to the library’s eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming movies & TV, and other online resources while the library is closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please click here to request a card.
The library interprets possession of a library card as consent to use it unless it has been reported lost or stolen by the account holder. A library card or photo identification is required at all times to borrow library materials.
Library users may have up to 200 items checked out on their card at one time. DVDs and Blu-rays are limited to a combination of 10 of these items on one account at a time, and 2 video games per account at a time.
If the item you need is checked out, you may reserve it via the online catalog, in person, by email, or by calling the library. When the item is available you will be notified, and you will have 3 days to pick the item up.
