Library Cards

Get a Library Card

Residents of Grimes, unincorporated areas of Polk County, and Open Access communities are eligible for a library card. To obtain a card, individuals are required to present photo identification with the current address or photo identification plus an valid form of current address (e.g. cancelled mail, electronic bill, etc.).  Patrons aged 5-17 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian with the adult showing appropriate identification. Library cards are renewed every year at which time your account balance must be paid in full. There is a $1 fee to replace a lost card. Promptly report a lost or stolen card.

Checking Out

The library interprets possession of a library card as consent to use it unless it has been reported lost or stolen by the account holder. A library card or photo identification is required at all times to borrow library materials.

Library users may have up to 200 items checked out on their card at one time. DVDs and Blu-rays are limited to a combination of 10 of these items on one account at a time, and 2 video games per account at a time.

Renewals

Most library materials may be renewed twice. Renew via the online catalog, in person, by email, or by calling the library. Items will not renew if they have been reserved by another patron.

Holds

If the item you need is checked out, you may reserve it via the online catalog, in person, by email, or by calling the library. When the item is available you will be notified, and you will have 3 days to pick the item up.
