Library History

The Grimes Public Library was founded on June 13, 1972. The first library was housed in the brick building that is now the Mustang Grill on Main Street. In 1994 the library moved to our present building on the north-west corner of the intersection of First and James streets. That location was remodeled in 2014 and the library was temporarily housed inside the Grimes Community Complex. The Grimes library is a class E library, which means we serve a population of 5,000 to 10,000 people. The library's collection consists of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and computer games. All together, we have a collection of over 38,000 titles!
